CHARLESTON, Ill. – With a 10-0 mark in Ohio Valley Conference play, the EKU softball team will put its flawless league record on the line with doubleheaders at Eastern Illinois University and Southern Illinois Edwardsville this weekend.
EKU (26-6, 10-0 OVC) will take on the Panthers in a Saturday twin bill slated for a 2 p.m. start before closing the weekend against the Cougars in Sunday's doubleheader.
The Colonels have won their last 11 games as they continue their best start in program history.
Sophomore
Paige Murphy leads the OVC, hitting .436 on the season, as senior
Kayla Joyce (.407) and junior
Krislyn Campos (.376) also rank in the category's top-10. EKU is hitting .319 on the year as a team—second best in the league.
Senior right-hander
Hayley Flynn picked up her 17th win of the season last weekend and ranks fourth in the nation in wins. Meanwhile, junior
Alex Sallberg picked up her program-best fifth save of the season which is good for third in the country.
EIU (10-23, 4-6 OVC) claimed the series finale against Murray State last weekend with a 2-0 win on Sunday. Senior infielder Katie Watson leads the Panthers' offense with a .287 average at the plate.
SIUE (12-17, 6-4 OVC) is led by freshman Alyssa Heren who is hitting a team-best .313 on the year and senior pitcher Baylee Douglass who ranks sixth in the league with a 2.05 earned-run average.
