MARTIN, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky scored one run in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings, and never trailed on its way to a series tying 5-4 victory at Tennessee-Martin on Saturday.
The Colonels (14-17, 4-7 OVC) will go for their second straight OVC series victory on Sunday when they face the Skyhawks at 2 p.m. ET.
Kyle Nowlin's single to right in the third brought home
Shea Sullivan for the game's first run.
Ben Fisher scored on an error in the fourth. Fisher drove in Nowlin and gave EKU a 3-1 lead with a single to right in the fifth.
Alex Holderbach's RBI double in the sixth made it a 4-1 game.
UT Martin (8-23, 3-11 OVC) finally got to Eastern starter
Alex Hamilton in the sixth. Hamilton allowed just one hit and one run through the first five innings. Nick Gavello and Josh Hauser had back-to-back RBI doubles to get the Skyhawks within one, 4-3.
Hamilton (3-3) allowed three runs on four hits in five and two-thirds innings. He walked six and struck out three.
Eastern manufactured a much needed insurance run in the eighth.
Cole Warrenfeltz began the inning with a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and reached third on a fly ball.
Mandy Alvarez brought him home with a single to right field.
UTM closed the gap to one in the bottom of the eighth and had runners at the corners with two outs. Second baseman Holderbach made a diving stop of a ground ball up the middle and tossed to second just in time to get the force and end the inning.
Fisher finished 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Nowlin went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Sullivan had one hit in three at bats and scored twice.
Daniel Kerwin went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Tennessee-Martin. Gavello finished 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.
