AKRON, Ohio – The EKU volleyball team continues its tour across America with a stop in Akron, Ohio to play in the Akron Invitational.
 
Eastern Kentucky faces Youngstown State University on Friday before taking on host University of Akron and Canisius College on Saturday. Friday's match is set for 4:00 p.m. ET and Saturday's matches are set for 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET.
 
The Colonels split matches last Saturday at the Grand Canyon University Tournament, beating California State University at Fullerton, 3-1, before falling to Eastern Washington, 3-2.
 
Juniors Celina Sanks and Mallory Maxwell led the way for EKU in the win against Cal State Fullerton. Sanks currently ranks in the Ohio Valley Conference's top-10 in both kills-per-set (3.15) and points-per-set (3.38). Maxwell had a game-high 22 digs, while Sanks tallied a team-high 12 kills. Freshman Rachel Woody continued her recent hot streak with 24 assists, 10 digs, and seven kills in Saturday's win and remains atop national rankings with two triple-doubles on the season.
 
Youngstown State (2-5) is led by senior Lori Vanbeek's team high 90 kills on the season. Akron (2-4) leans heavily on senior Amanda Bedell and sophomore Kayla Gwozdz, as both have compiled 50 kills this season.
 
Canisius (2-4) has senior Katlyn Tyler leading the way offensively with 60 kills this year.
