Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Senior forward
Jordan Foster scored a dramatic golden goal midway through the first overtime period that lifted the Eastern Kentucky University soccer team past the Jacksonville State Gamecocks, 1-0, on Friday night at JSU Soccer Field.
In the 95th minute, the Fairborn, Ohio native took a throw-in from junior
Bailly Bounds and fired a shot from 30-yards out that sailed past the goalkeeper and into the top left of the net. Foster now has recorded three game-winners on the year and is tied with fellow senior forward
Emmi Carroll with a team-leading six goals on the season.
"Jacksonville State is tough to play against and is much better than their record suggest," said Head Coach
Nick Flohre. "We didn't make things any easier on ourselves and couldn't find a rhythm in the first half. Fortunately, we were able to settle down and possess the ball better in the second half and overtime."
EKU's unbeaten streak is now at an OVC-best nine games.
Foster led EKU (8-3-4, 5-0-3 OVC) with eight shots on the night, three being on target. In total, the Colonels managed 12 shots.
Senior goalkeeper
Anna Hall recorded three saves and her fifth clean sheet of the season in the win.
Center backs
Haley Kemper and
Katie Shaffer anchored the Colonel backline, never leaving the field of play.
The Gamecocks (5-9-2, 2-6 OVC) were led by Madis Carruthers, who tallied four shots on the evening.
Eastern will be back in action Sunday when they travel to take on the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
