Baseball Homers Four Times In Loss At Morehead

Box Score

MOREHEAD, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team sent four balls out of the park, but it would not be enough as it lost its first Ohio Valley Conference road game of the season to the Morehead State Eagles, 15-9, Friday afternoon at Allen Field.

The Colonels (13-10, 1-3 OVC) took an early lead when Ben Fisher singled to score Daniel McFarland in the top of the first, putting them in front 1-0.  Eastern added a run in the top of the second on Cornell Nixon single that scored Nick Howie, and another run in the top of the third when a Logan Starnes double brought Shea Sullivan home.

The Eagles (15-6, 6-1 OVC) got on the board in the bottom of the third when Eli Boggess homered to center field, making the score 3-1 EKU after three.

Ben Fisher extended the lead with a solo home run to right center. Eastern took a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the fourth, but the Colonels would not escape the inning with the lead.

MSU used a five-run inning sparked by a Michael Patrick home run to take the lead, 6-4.

Howie launched a solo shot over the left field wall to bring Eastern within one, 6-5, but that was as close as EKU would get for the rest of the game.

Morehead scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth, and after a two-run Starnes home run got the Colonels within one again, 8-7, the Eagles used a six-run bottom of the seventh to put the game out of reach. Alex Holderbach's two-run homer over the right field wall cut into the deficit, but was not enough as EKU fell 15-9.

Fisher and Ryland Kerr each went 3-for-5 on the day, and Starnes finished with two hits and three RBIs.

Boggess for MSU finished the day going 4-for-5 with six RBIs.

The Colonels wrap up their series against the Eagles tomorrow with a double header. Game one is set for a 1 p.m. start.
