MURRAY, Ky. – Despite holding the Ohio Valley Conference hits leader Brenna Finck to just one hit, the Eastern Kentucky University softball team fell to host Murray State, 3-0, on Monday afternoon at Racer Field.
The game was supposed to be the first leg of a doubleheader, but game two was canceled due to lightning. It will not be made up.
Freshman
Mia Sanchez singled in the top of the first and advanced to second on a throwing error by the Racers. She went to third on a groundout by sophomore
Rachel Minogue, but the Colonels were unable to push her across the plate. That was the only time EKU was able to put a runner in scoring position.
A big third inning saw the Racers (25-9, 2-1 OVC) push three across the plate, following a double by Finck and back-to-back homers from Jessica Twaddle and Jocelynn Rodgers.
Sanchez went 2-for-3 for the Colonels. Sophomore
Brittany Oldaker also notched a hit.
Senior
Alex Sallberg pitched the final 3.2 innings in relief, holding the Racers scoreless and surrendering only two hits.
The Colonels (13-17, 2-1 OVC) will be back in action Saturday for a doubleheader at Belmont. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
