MARTIN, Tenn. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team nearly rallied for a come-from-behind road win at UT Martin on Saturday, but the Colonels eventually fell to the Skyhawks, 7-3.

UTM (32-14, 9-4 OVC) jumped out to a commanding 7-0 lead by the end of the third inning.

Sophomore
Hannah Clark made the first dent in the Skyhawks' lead when she blasted her team-leading ninth home run of the season in the top of the sixth, a solo shot to left field.

In the top of the seventh, senior
Kelly Wood led off with a single. With one out in the inning, senior
Krislyn Campos slapped a base hit into right field, advancing Wood's pinch runner – freshman
Shelby Atzinger – to second. The next batter, junior
Paige Murphy, reached on a fielding error, allowing Atzinger to score. Sophomore
Rachel Minogue then reached on another infield error, loading the bases. After junior
Johnkyria Alston popped up for the second out of the inning, Clark delivered again, this time with an RBI base hit through the left side that scored Campos and made it 7-3.

With two on and two outs, sophomore
Brittany Oldaker crushed a ball over the left field wall that went just foul. The home run would have made it a one-run game. Oldaker then grounded out to second to end the rally and the game.

Clark finished 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Campos went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Senior
Alex Sallberg tossed 5.2 innings of solid relief, allowing the Colonels to stage the late rally. Sallberg allowed only one earned run on two hits for the day.

Brooke Kennedy pitched a complete game for UTM to earn her 17
th win of the season.

Jodie Duncan drove in four runs to spark the Skyhawks at the plate.
