Fisher Scores Two Runs In Final Game

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.
–The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team dropped its season finale, 16-3 to the Southeast Missouri University Redhawks at Capaha Park on Saturday afternoon.
 
For the first time in this series SEMO (27-24, 15-14 OVC) opened the scoring, breaking the scoreless tie in the bottom of the second with a double from Danny Wright that scored two runs. Wright came home on a single from Connor Basler, and Basler crossed the plate after a home run from Dan Holst, giving the Redhawks a 5-0 lead.
 
Southeast Missouri added to its lead in the third with a three-run inning to take an 8-0 lead into the fourth.
 
The Colonels (24-31, 10-19 OVC) got on the board in the fourth with a Nick Howie single that brought Ben Fisher home from third base, making it 8-1.
 
SEMO responded with a two-run bottom of the inning to take a 10-1 advantage, and tacked on five more runs in the fifth to take a 15-1 lead.
 
EKU got a run back in the seventh when Daniel McFarland doubled, and then scored after a throwing error allowed Nixon to reach first, making it 15-2.
 
The final Eastern run came off a Logan Stephens single that brought Fisher home in the top of the eighth.
 
The Redhawks scored one final insurance run in the bottom of the eight to secure the 16-3 loss for the Colonels.
 
Nixon, McFarland and Fisher each had two hits in the game, while Fisher scored two runs.
 
Fisher ends the regular season as the NCAA leader in home runs, having hit 25. He also finishes the regular season at first place in runs scored with 71.
