Colonels Host Eastern Illinois in OVC Doubleheader on Saturday

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men's and women's basketball teams will look to bounce back when the Colonels host Eastern Illinois in an OVC doubleheader at McBrayer Arena on Saturday.

The women tip at 1:00 p.m., followed by the men at 4:00 p.m.

- The Colonels (4-8, 1-2 OVC) narrowly fell to the SIUE Cougars, 62-60, Thursday night in their OVC home-opener. Eastern held a nine-point lead with one quarter to play, but were outscored 22-11 in the final stanza to give up the win. 

- A'Queen Hayes scored a career-high 26 points and pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds in the Colonels loss to SIUE. She was also very efficient from the charity stripe, finishing 6-of-8. 

- Joya Smith earned her first start of her Colonel career against SIUE. She finished with a career-high 11 points and drilled a career-high two three pointers.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
 
- Eastern Illinois (1-13, 0-3 OVC) fell to Morehead State, 89-81, at Morehead on Thursday. It was the most points the Panthers have scored this season. 

- Grace Lennox has started in all eight games she has appeared and leads EIU in scoring (15.4) and assists (3.4). Jennifer Nehls scored a career-high 24 points against Morehead State and leads the Panthers in rebounding (4.9). 

- The Colonels are tied with Eastern Illinois in the all-time series, 18-18, after winning the previous two contests. The last matchup in the series came in McBrayer last season, where EKU knocked off the Panthers in overtime, 88-85.

The Colonels will hit the road to take on the UT Martin and Southeast Missouri.

- EKU (6-10, 0-3 OVC) nearly staged an improbably last-minute comeback against SIUE on Thursday night at McBrayer Arena; however, the Colonels fell to the Cougars, 85-82.
 
- Junior Nick Mayo had 25 points against SIUE. Mayo has now scored 51 points in his last two outings, and the forward from Oakland, Maine ranks second in the OVC in scoring (20.7 points-per-game) during league play.
 
- Mayo passed EKU Hall-of-Famer Michael Haney to reach No. 16 on EKU's all-time scoring list on Thursday (1,307 points). Next up on the list: Eric Stutz (1,338).
 
- Sophomore Tay Weaver has notched 15 assists and only two turnovers in EKU's last two games.
 
- Freshman JacQuess Hobbs scored a career-high 10 points against SIUE on Thursday. He is the 10th different Colonel to score in double figures this season.
 
- Senior Dillon Avare and freshman A.J. Youngman combined to go 5-of-7 from three-point range against SIUE on Thursday. Youngman (6th / 43.5%) and Avare (13th / 40.0%) both rank in the top-15 in the OVC in three-point field goal percentage.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
 
- Eastern Illinois (5-9, 1-2 OVC) defeated Morehead State, 61-52, in Morehead on Thursday night for its first conference win.
 
- Montell Goodwin leads the Panthers at 13.5 points-per-game.
 
- This is the 39th all-time meeting between EKU and EIU. EKU leads the series, 22-16; however, the Panthers have won three straight over the Colonels, including a 74-60 victory last year in Richmond.
