Wilkins Leads Match Offensively, Colonels Fall To UT Martin

STATS

RICHMOND, Ky.
– Lindsey Wilkins collected 16 terminations to lead the match offensively, but it was not enough as the Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team fell to the University of Tennessee at Martin, 3-1, Thursday night in McBrayer Arena.

The Skyhawks won by scores of 25-18, 13-25, 25-19 and 25-18.

Throughout the first set the teams engaged in an intense back-and-forth affair. Neither team was given a clear advantage until kills from Megan Fair and Karen Scanlon gave UT Martin the largest lead to that point, 16-12. The squads exchanged points down the stretch, but the Skyhawks scored five unanswered to close out the set, 25-18.

In set two, EKU hit .480 while holding UTM to -.068.

After a ball handling error to open the second stanza the Colonels went on a 6-1 run to go ahead 7-2. A few points later Eastern rattled off seven unanswered to tilt the score, 18-6. UT Martin put up seven more points, but it wasn't enough as EKU took the set, 25-13.

The Skyhawks out-blocked Eastern Kentucky 8.5-to-4.0.

Rachel Woody had a match-high 28 assists while Chloe Rojas had a match-high 22 digs. Sydney Schoen chipped in 10 digs. Cassie Knutson added 13 kills of her own.

Fair and Hannah Phillips were each in double-digits for UTM with 14 and 10 kills, respectively.

EKU falls to 3-16 (2-5 OVC) while UT Martin improves to 9-11 (3-4 OVC).

The Colonels return to the hardwood tomorrow at 6 p.m. as they take on Southeast Missouri State at Madison Central High School.
