Wilson Anchors Defense As Colonels Fall To Southeast Missouri State

RICHMOND, Ky.
– Kennedy Wilson matched her career-high of 13 digs to anchor the Eastern Kentucky volleyball back court as the squad fell to Southeast Missouri State Friday night at Madison Central High School.

The Redhawks won by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-21.

Setter Maria Ferragonio collected two kills to match her career-high to go along with 11 assists. Chloe Rojas chipped inn 11 digs while Cassie Knutson added a team-high 11 terminations to round out the Colonels in double-digits.

SEMO jumped out to an early 5-1 lead to start the final set, but kills from Lindsey Wilkins and Knutson and a block from Wilkins and Clairissa Hankinson brought EKU within one, 5-4. The squads continued to exchange points until a blocking error from the Redhawks tied it up at 9-9.

The teams went point-for-point down the stretch, but Southeast Missouri rattled off three in a row to end it and call match, 25-21.

Annie Wehrheim led the Redhawks and had a match-high 18 kills.

EKU moves to 3-17 on the year with a 2-6 mark in the Ohio Valley Conference while SEMO improves to 13-7 (5-2 OVC).

The Colonels will return to action October 19 at Eastern Illinois.
