Late Surge Sends First-Place UT Martin Past Soccer, 3-1

Box Score

MARTIN, Tenn.
– The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team led first-place UT Martin for most of the game; however, the Skyhawks scored three late goals in less than three minutes to surge past the Colonels, 3-1, on a rainy Friday night at Skyhawk Field.

EKU (7-7-3, 3-3-3 OVC) jumped ahead in the 24th minute when junior Erin Torrence scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season off a rebound.

Torrence's eight goals this season tie her with Jordan Foster (2016) for the EKU single-season record.

The Colonels held that 1-0 lead until late in the second half. In the 70th minute, center back Jess Philpot was sent off following a red card, and UTM took advantage. The Skyhawks leveled in the 78th minute thanks to a goal from Amy McGivern. Just over a minute later, Skylor Keane scored to give the hosts the lead. Less than a minute after that, Keane stuck again, burying a one-on-one goal to make it 3-1.

With the win, UT Martin (13-2-1, 8-0-1 OVC) clinched the OVC regular season title.

Sophomore Kylie Thompson led EKU with three shots in the game, one of which was on frame.

Freshman keeper Zoe Aguirre made a career-high 13 saves on the night.

The Colonels will close out the regular season at Murray State on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
