Colonels Come Up Short Against In-State Rival Morehead State

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Lindsey Wilkins had a team-high 10 kills as the Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team fell to in-state rival Morehead State University.  
 
The Eagles won by scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-21.
 
Cassie Knutson matched Wilkins with a team-high 10 kills. While Chloe Rojas had a team-best 10 digs.
 
The third set started back-and-fourth as the teams were tied 3-3 early on, before the Colonels used a 5-1 run to push their lead to 8-4 in the set. Morehead State answered right back with a 4-0 run of its own to even things at 8-8. The two teams traded points much of the final stanza before MSU used an 8-1 run, ended with a kill by Jordan Jones, to extend its lead 22-18. EKU tried a late rally but fell 25-21.
 
Olivia Lohmeier had a match-high 16 kills to lead the Eagles offense. Allison Whitten had a match-best 16 digs. Chandler Clark led all players with 38 assists on the night.
 
EKU moves to 4-21 on the year with a 3-10 mark in the Ohio Valley Conference while MSU improves to 18-8 and 9-4 in conference play.
 
The Colonels return to the court Saturday to take on Austin Peay State University. The match starts at 2 p.m.
