RICHMOND, Ky. – Cassie Knutson collected a triple-double with 14 kills, 14 assists and 11 digs, but the Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team fell to Austin Peay State University in five sets Saturday afternoon.

The Governors won by scores of 19-25, 25-21, 25-15, 17-25 and 15-11.

Four Colonels reached double-digits in kills in the match. Katelyn Caserma-Kloeble had 12 kills and two digs.
Kaylin Johnson had 13 kills and
Lindsey Wilkins pitched in 13 kills.
Chloe Rojas had a team-high 20 digs in the contest.
Kennedy Wilson had 16 digs.Â
Rachel Woody pitched in 14 digs and
Sydney Schoen had 11 of her own.Â

The Colonels jumped out to an early 8-1 lead in the opening stanza, ending with an attack error by APSU, and never looked back in the opening set. Austin Peay used a run to try and get back into the set and cut into the lead, 16-14, after a kill by Jenna Panning. Eastern Kentucky used a 3-0 run to close the set and win the opening frame 25-19 after a kill by
Lindsey Wilkins.

EKU jumped out to an early 8-3 lead after an ace by
Cassie Knutson in set number four. The Govs made a run of their own to try and get back into the stanza, cutting the Colonel lead to 13-9 after a service error by EKU. That is as close as they would get in the stanza, after a kill by Clarissa Hankinson to pushed the lead to 14-9. EKU won 25-17 after an attack error by the Governors.

Austin Peay got off to an early 5-0 start in the set number five after a pair of kills by Cecily Gable. EKU used a 4-0 run of its own to cut into the APSU lead, 5-4, after a kill by Knutson. The Governors responded back with a 5-1 run to extend their lead 10-5 after a kill by Brooke Moore. The Colonels made one last run to cut into the lead, 11-10, after an attack error by APSU, but that is as close as they would get. Austin Peay ended the match on 4-1 run to win the final set 15-11 and win the match.

Ginny Gerig had a match-high 30 digs on the evening for the Governors. Kristen Stucker had a match-high 40 assists. Austin Peay had three players with double-digit kills, led by Logan Carger with 11. Moore and Panning each had 10.

EKU falls to 4-22 on the year with a 3-11 mark in the Ohio Valley Conference while APSU improves to 23-4 and 12-2 in conference play.

The Colonels return to the court Friday to take on Belmont University. The match will start at 6 p.m. ET.
