RICHMOND, Ky. – Ramon van Flymen took down Scott Webster, the 82
nd ranked player in the country, at No. 1 singles as the Eastern Kentucky University men's tennis team fell to Appalachian State, 4-3, Saturday afternoon at the Greg Adams Tennis Center.
App State (5-2) quickly took the doubles point, but the squads battled for the singles points.
The Mountaineers went up two after finishing first at No. 4 singles, but the Colonels evened the score after huge matches from van Flymen and
Parth Aggarwal. Van Flymen took down Webster quickly at No. 1, 6-3, 6-2. Aggarwal put away Milo Bargeron at No. 2, 6-2, 6-3.
Gabriel Ruiz and Ben Webster fought it out in an epic three-set match at No. 3 singles. Ruiz claimed the first set, 6-3, but fell in the second, 6-1. But, Webster collected the win, edging the senior, 6-4, to put App State ahead a point, 3-2.
Nicolas Castaldo defeated Alex Brea in three sets at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1, to again push the score even.
Guillem Sanchis won set one at No. 5 singles, 6-4, but was clipped in the final two sets, 6-4, 6-4, pushing the Mountaineers over the top.
EKU (2-7) will be back in action Feb. 18 as they welcome in Union College at 9 a.m. and the University of Indianapolis at 2 p.m.
