CHARLESTON, S.C. – Zoe Mihalicz went 3-of-4 on day one of the Buccaneer Invitational, hosted by Charleston Southern, but it was not enough as the Eastern Kentucky University softball team dropped games to Valparaiso, 7-2, and CSU, 8-0.
Valpo remained consistent throughout the game one, putting up runs in 4-of-7 innings.
Melissa Jacobsen singled in the third and stole second to open the bottom of the third. Paige Murphy reached second on errors while the sophomore worked her way around the bases to put EKU on the board, 4-1.
The Colonels opened the sixth with a double from Mollie Paulick. Samantha Reynoso entered to run for Paulick and scored off of a Mihalicz single to center.
Charleston Southern's (4-2) Taylor Gleason cranked a first-inning grand slam over the right field wall to doom the Eastern in game two. The early 4-0 deficit proved insurmountable for the Colonels.
Murphy notched a hit for extra bases in game two with a double in the fourth.
Eastern Kentucky (3-3) closes out the tournament tomorrow as it takes on North Carolina Central (0-2) at 9 a.m. followed by Valparaiso (4-2) at 11 a.m.
