Wright Scores Career-High 24, Bass Records First Career Double-Double, But Women's Basketball Falls To UTM

Box Score

RICHMOND, Ky. – Abby Wright and Bria Bass had big games as the women's basketball team fell to Tennessee-Martin, 72-54, on Thursday at McBrayer Arena.

Wright scored a career-high 24 points, going 5-of-8 from the three-point line, and grabbed nine rebounds. Bass recorded her first career double-double with 13 points and 10 boards.

After going into the locker room at the half down 39-20, the Colonels needed a big offensive showing in the second half to have an attempt at a comeback. Wright opened the third quarter red hot from behind the arch, drilling three trifectas to help send Eastern on an 11-2 run within the first three minutes, cutting the lead down to 10.

Eastern (7-15, 4-9 OVC) couldn't get the lead back down to single digits in the third quarter, and the fourth quarter yielded similar results. After trading baskets back and forth, a three-pointer from Wright with 6:26 left brought the Skyhawk's lead back down to twelve.

UT Martin (13-12, 9-4 OVC) quickly responded on the other end with a layup from Janekia Mason to go back in front by 14. After the Colonels were sent to the line and knocked down a free throw, UTM knocked down back-to-back threes to take a 19-point lead with 3:46 remaining.

Bass hit a three for EKU with 2:35 left to get within 16, but the Colonels offense went stagnant as the Skyhawks went on to cap off an 18-point victory.

UTM had five players scoring in double digits, led by Kendall Spray with 19 points and seven rebounds. Chelsey Perry contributed 11 points for the Skyhawks while notching a team-high eight rebounds.

Eastern Kentucky will be back in action at home on Saturday against Morehead State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET.
