HOUSTON, Texas – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team fell to Houston Baptist, 5-4, on Wednesday afternoon at Husky Field.
HBU (3-12) struck first, putting up two in the bottom of the first inning.
Eastern (16-7) responded with a solo home run from Carly Robinson in the top of the second to draw within one, 2-1.
Hannah Clark and Emily Corbitt singled, Zoe Mihalicz walked to load the bases for Robinson in the fourth frame. Robinson delivered, again, doubling to center field to plate two. The runs put the Colonels ahead, 3-2.
Paige Murphy scored on a Johnkyria Alston two-bagger in the fifth stanza to tack another on, 4-2.
The Huskies plated three on two errors to take the game in the bottom of the fifth, 5-4.
Robinson went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a walk while Corbitt and Clark each went 2-for-4.
Murphy McRoberts pitched 5.1 innings giving up just two hits and no walks.
EKU returns to the diamond this Saturday as they take part in a round robin with Houston and Dartmouth. The first game begins at 1 p.m.
