HOUSTON, Texas –
Johnkyria Alston's home run against Dartmouth proved lethal as the Eastern Kentucky University softball team split the final day of the Houston Round Robin, defeating Dartmouth but falling to Houston.

Destinee Lizzmore walked in the first at-bat of the frame for the Colonels to put one on for senior Alston. She cranked one to left center to put Eastern up early, 2-0.

It was all zeros throughout the rest of the game, as EKU topped the Big Green (4-9).

Hannah Clark went 2-for-3 in the contest while Paige Murphy went 1-for-2.

Samantha Reynoso notched the win, giving up just two hits and one walk over five innings of work.

In the second game of the day Houston (17-8) went ahead, 4-0, after notching five hits in the first inning.

EKU got on the board in the third after a Lizzmore two-bagger and Alston single, plating three, 4-3.

But, the Colonels couldn't hold off a hot offensive Cougar team who put up seven more runs through the final four innings, defeating EKU 11-4.

Eastern (17-10) returns home March 21 for a 4 p.m. matchup against Miami (Ohio).
