RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University tennis teams both notched wins over Eastern Illinois Friday afternoon at the Tom Higgins Tennis Courts.

The women swept the Panthers, 7-0, to remain undefeated in Ohio Valley Conference play while the men secured a 6-1 victory.

Viktorija Demcenkova and
Kristina Lagoda combined to pick up a quick 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles to start the match.Â

Alexandra Belle and
Lisa Friess battled to win at No. 1 doubles, 7-6, clinching the point for the Colonels.
Â
Alexandra Belle won both of her sets, 6-4, 6-3 to bag the first singles point of the match at No. 4 singles.
Â
Laura Argente followed suit, making quick work of Stella Cliffe at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-1.

Lisa Friess clinched the match with her win at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-2.

Demcenkova, Lagoda, and
Margaux Lacroix each collected wins at their respective singles matches.

Ramon van Flymen and
Gabriel Ruiz paired up at No. 1 doubles to defeat a Panther duo, 6-1, and put EKU ahead.

EIU took the final two doubles matches to notch the point.

With the Colonels down a point,
Guillem Sanchis collected a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles to even the score, 1-1.

Ruiz, Josh Piunti and van Flymen won the next three singles matches at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 1 to clinch the match.

The men went on to sweep the singles matches and defeat the Panthers.

After the win the women move to 8-8 (3-0 OVC), while the Panthers fall to 8-10 (2-1 OVC). The men improve to 5-13 (1-0 OVC) and EIU men drops to 4-14 (0-3 OVC).

The women returns to the courts tomorrow, March 24, at 11 a.m. against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The men take on Xavier in Cincinnati, Ohio on Sunday at 1 p.m.
