Mihalicz's Big Day Powers EKU In Split With Austin Peay

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Zoe Mihalicz went 3-for-3 at the plate in game one with four runs batted in to power the Eastern Kentucky University softball team in a 7-1 win over Austin Peay State University Monday afternoon at Gertrude Hood Field. The squad fell in game two, 5-2.

The Colonels brought hot bats in game one, scoring seven runs on 12 hits compared to Austin Peay's five.

Paige Murphy singled to start the first inning followed by a two-bagger from Johnkyria Alston. Hannah Clark hit a hard ground ball to second to bring Murphy home. Mihalicz cranked her third double of the season to put EKU up, 2-0.

Mihalicz hit another well-placed ball to bring Murphy home and add another in the third, 3-0.

EKU caught fire in the fifth inning, beginning on a single from Alston and a double from Clark. Mihalicz came in clutch again, this time with a two-RBI single to center field. Emily Corbitt added to the hit total, bringing home Mihalicz.

Destinee Lizzmore drove in one more run and EKU took a 7-0 lead.

The pitching staff nearly held the Governor's scoreless, but APSU brought one across in the sixth.

Both Carly Robinson and Alston went 3-for-4.

Carly Mattson had the lone RBI for APSU.

Austin Peay struck first in game two, following a Morgan Rackel two-run bomb.

The Governors tacked on two more in the third after another home run, this time from Danielle Liermann, 4-0.

EKU attempted to cut into the lead in the bottom of the frame. Samantha Reynoso singled to shortstop and Lizzmore tripled to right field to bring her home.

Murphy singled up the middle to clear the bases and make it a two-run game, 4-2.

But, APSU wouldn't quit adding another in the final inning to take the game, 5-2.

After the pair EKU moves to 20-11 (3-1 OVC) while APSU is 18-9 (3-1 OVC).
