OXFORD, Ala. –
The Eastern Kentucky University women's tennis team defeated Jacksonville State, 5-2, to remain undefeated in Ohio Valley Conference play while the men's tennis team fell to the Gamecocks, 6-1, Friday afternoon at the Oxford Tennis Courts.

Viktorija Demcenkova and Alexandra Belle each won matches to extend their streaks to five straight and stay undefeated in league singles play. Kristina Lagoda also is undefeated in OVC singles matches, but has won seven in a row.

Belle paired with Lisa Friess at No. 2 doubles to top a JSU duo, 6-4.

Laura Argente and Raquel Montalvo clinched the singles point right after, claiming No. 3 doubles, 6-4.

Belle claimed the first singles point of the event at No. 4 with a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

Lagoda won 6-3, 7-6 at No. 2 followed by an Argente win at No. 1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 to clinch the match.

Demcenkova piled on another win, 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.

"Both of these teams at JSU are super deep teams," Head Coach Rob Oertel stated. "They are as deep of a team as we have played in the OVC. Our top girls came up big in the big moments and that was the difference. It was a great test. This team will really test you, they are great competitors. Our talent got us through and our ability to hang tough and play big was the difference."

Jacksonville State (10-4, 3-3 OVC) picked up wins at No. 5 and 6 singles to make it a final score of 5-2.

The Colonel women (10-8, 5-0 OVC) have won five in a row.

In the men's portion, Ramon van Flymen and Gabriel Ruiz made quick work of a JSU duo at No. 1 doubles, 6-0. But, the Gamecocks took the next two matches to claim the doubles point.

After wins at No. 3, 2 and 4 singles the match was claimed by Jacksonville State.

Nicolas Castaldo claimed the lone point for the men at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 3-6 (10-7).

"This men's team is tough out," Oertel said. "It was a good win from Nic to take one away from them. Hopefully good things happen next time we see them in the tournament."

EKU falls to 5-15 (1-1 OVC) while JSU moves to 13-2 (3-0 OVC).

The men return to action tomorrow at Tennessee Tech. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
