BOWLING GREEN, Ky. –
The Eastern Kentucky University softball team took sole possession of the single-season home run record (previously 47) after the squad drilled five bombs, propelling it to a midweek split with Western Kentucky University. The Colonels fell in game one, 6-3, but took the second, 8-4.

Destinee Lizzmore got things going right away for EKU, doubling in the top of the first. Paige Murphy then tore the cover off of the third pitch she saw, homering over the right center wall to put the Colonels on top early, 2-0.

Eastern tacked one more on in the second after Murphy walked with loaded bases.

In the bottom of the frame WKU put together three hits to score two runs, cutting into the Colonel lead, 3-2.

EKU kept in tempo in the third as Hannah Clark came up with a solo shot to add another, 4-2.

Western drew within one after a double, 4-3, but Murphy responded with her second round-tripper of the evening, 5-3.

The Hilltoppers added one more to make a final stab at the lead.

Clark added a final bit of insurance in the final stanza, going yard for the second time in the game, for three runs batted in, 8-4.
