RICHMOND, Ky. – Despite leading in three matches when the match was called the Eastern Kentucky University men's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to the University of Dayton Wednesday afternoon at the Tom Higgins Tennis Courts.
Gabriel Ruiz and Ramon van Flymen were at a 5-5 stalemate at No. 1 doubles when the Flyers claimed the No. 2 and 3 matches to claim the point.
UD won at No. 2 and No. 5 singles to take a 3-0 advantage and put the contest at match point.
Joshua Piunti battled back from a 5-0 deficit in the second set, but fell to Lorenzo Rollhauser, 6-4, 6-4.
Flymen and Ruiz were each leading in the third set when match was called.
Guillem Sanchis won set one, 7-5, and was behind 3-5 in the second.
EKU drops to 6-18 (2-3 OVC) while Dayton improves to 16-5 (4-1, A-10).
The Colonels return to action Friday at 10 a.m. as they take on Austin Peay State.
