Softball Hits The Road For Conference Swing

RICHMOND, Ky. –
The Eastern Kentucky University softball team is set to travel to Tennessee Tech University on Saturday and Jacksonville State on Sunday for conference twin bills.
 
The Colonels ride a 7-game winning streak into the weekend.

First pitch at TTU is slated for 1 p.m. ET, while the contests against JSU are set to begin at 2 p.m. ET.

LAST TIME OUT
 
-EKU (29-14, 11-1 OVC) swept two conference opponents last weekend in the University of Tennessee at Martin and Southeast Missouri State.
 
-The wins put Eastern at the top spot in the league.
 
-The reigning Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, Paige Murphy, cranked three home runs in the four games to tie the single-season home run record of 16, set by Raquel Howes in 2012.
 
-Murphy is leading the Colonels from the batter's box with a .446 average through 43 contests. The senior has tallied 46 runs, 58 hits, 10 doubles and 43 RBIs.
 
-Mollie Paulick is leading the charge for the pitching staff, tossing a 2.36 earned run average. The sophomore has thrown 109 strikeouts.
 
-After another week of softball the Colonels remain atop the nation in home runs per game.
 
-Murphy sits inside the top 10 in the nation in five categories: sixth in slugging percentage (.908), seventh in home runs (16), eighth in total bases (118), ninth long balls per game (.37) and 10th runs per game (1.07).
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

-The Golden Eagles (16-27, 7-9 OVC) are currently ranked seventh in the league.
 
-TTU has won two of its last four contests, splitting games with both Eastern Illinois and Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.
 
-Tennessee Tech is lead offensively by Bayli Cruse with a .305 batting average. Taylor Waldrop leads the pitching staff with a 3.39 ERA and 74 strikeouts on the year.
 
JACKSONVILLE STATE
                                                                                                                               
-JSU (26-19, 13-3) is currently second in the league.
 
-The Gamecocks ride a three-game winning streak into the contest with a win against Georgia Tech (nine innings) and a sweep of Eastern llinois.
 
-Taylor Beshears leads Jacksonville State in the batter's box with a .363 average, while Faith Sims leads defensively with a 2.03 earned run average.
