Men's And Women's Tennis Collect Wins at Tennessee State

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –
The Eastern Kentucky University tennis teams took down Tennessee State Saturday afternoon in Nashville, Tennessee. The men won by a score of 7-0 while the women won 6-1. 

The men (6-17, 2-3 OVC) opened the day and quickly went ahead 1-0 after taking the doubles point. Ramon van Flymen and Gabriel Ruiz claimed a 6-2 victory at No. 1 while Juan Soria paired up with Eduardo Cabral for a 6-1 win at No. 3.

Guillem Sanchis was first off the court in singles, defeating Larry Sloan, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3. Parth Aggarwal and Ruiz followed at No. 2 and 4, respectively, to clinch the match.

Flymen, Nicolas Castaldo and Colin Hart also picked up wins for the Colonels, icing the win over the Tigers (9-9, 1-5 OVC), 7-0.

Tennessee State claimed the first doubles match at No. 3 in the women's portion, but Kristina Lagoda and Viktorija Demcenkova responded by picking up a 6-1 win at No.1. Alexandra Belle and Lisa Friess clinched the point with a 6-2 win at No. 2.

Demcenkova garnered a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles followed by a Friess win at No. 5, 6-0, 6-2.

Laura Argente came up with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 1 to clinch the match.  

Lagoda won her ninth match in a row at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-4.

Belle also picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 4 to wrap up the Colonel victories. Each came in straight sets.

"All of our girls are playing at as high of a level as they ever has," Head Coach Rob Oertel stated. "I am confident we will rise higher in the next two weeks."

Margaux Lacroix battled in a three-set thriller at No 6 singles. The Belgium native won set one, 6-4, but dropped set two, 7-6. Lacroix was down 9-5 in the super-tiebreaker and came back to tie it at 9-9. TSU *12-8, 1-6 OVC) took the final two points to win the match.

The women (12-8, 7-0 OVC) have won seven in a row.

The men will be back in action this week at home against the University of Dayton at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams will compete at Austin Peay State this Friday, April 13.
