RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University fell to Towson University, 4-3, but defeated the University of Toledo, 8-0, for the second time in as many days to stay alive in the National Invitational Softball Championship Friday at Gertrude Hood Field.
After a pair of walks to Destinee Lizzmore and Paige Murphy to open game two Hannah Clark crushed her second home run of the day to put the Colonels on top early, 3-0.
EKU (42-19) added insurance in the top frame of the third. Emily Corbitt singled and Johnkyria Alston kept tempo with a double to left center. Zoe Mihalicz collected a sacrifice fly to plate Corbitt and extend the advantage to 4-0.
The Colonels continued to pile on, plating four over the next four innings, while Murphy McRoberts held the Rockets (35-23) scoreless. The junior allowed just three hits and improves to 13-7 on the year.
Murphy's double in the fourth stanza added another record to her collection, taking hold of the career hits record with 236.

In game one both teams were held scoreless through two, but the Colonels struck first, plating two. Mattira Morales notched a walk and Lizzmore singled through the left side to put two on for Murphy. The senior doubled to right center to push one across, followed by a Clark single to make it 2-0.
Towson (42-17) cut the lead in half, 2-1, in the fourth after a single through the left side. But, in a rainy fifth inning the Tigers tied the score at 2-2 after Madison Wilson was walked and made her way around, scoring on a Brook Miko single.
Clark found an answer to the Towson rally, going yard on the second pitch she saw for a solo shot to regain the lead, 3-2.
But, the Tigers had no quit, putting together two runs on three hits to complete the seventh inning comeback.
The Colonels will take on Towson in the championship at 12 p.m. ET tomorrow. The Colonels have to beat the Tigers twice in order to win it all.
