Softball Puts 13-Game Winning Streak On The Line On The Road This Weekend

RICHMOND, Ky. –
The Eastern Kentucky University softball team will take its 13-game winning streak on the road this weekend as it visits Eastern Illinois on Saturday and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville on Sunday.
 
The Colonels will try to lock up their first Ohio Valley Conference regular-season title since 2004, just the third in program history, and secure the No. 1 seed for the tournament.
 
First pitch is set for 2 p.m. ET both days.
 
LAST TIME OUT
 
-EKU (35-14, 17-1 OVC) notched a pair of shutouts over Belmont University Wednesday in a midweek doubleheader. The Colonels topped the Bruins by scores of 1-0 and 6-0.
 
-Destinee Lizzmore collected a lethal solo shot to put EKU on the board in game one after four scoreless innings.
 
-Paige Murphy, Emily Corbitt and Zoe Mihalicz each went yard in game two as the Colonels continue to pile on to the new single-season home run record.
 
-Mollie Paulick (16-5) went the distance in the second game after tossing one and two-thirds innings in the first. The sophomore has had a hand in 9-of-11 strikeouts this season.
 
-Murphy continues to lead the offensive effort, hitting .458 on the season with 12 doubles, a triple, 18 home runs and 21 stolen bases.
 
-Paulick leads the pitching staff, tossing a stingy 1.12 ERA in OVC play.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
 
EASTERN ILLINOIS
                                                                                                                               
-The Panthers (31-17, 10-8 OVC) come into Saturday's contest on a two-game skid after dropping a doubleheader to Austin Peay on Sunday.
 
-EIU is led at the plate by Haley Mitchell (.422), while Jessica Wireman is tossing a team-high 2.44 from the circle.
 
-Mitchell ranks behind Murphy in the league in batting average, slugging percentage (.747), hits (65) and total bases (115), but leads the conference in RBIs (58) and doubles (17).
 
SIUE
                                                                                                                               
-The Cougars (21-18, 11-7 OVC) fell in 3-of-4 contests last weekend, picking up a 1-0 victory in the nightcap of a twin bill with Murray State.
 
-Zoe Schafer leads SIUE in batting average (.340), while Emily Ingles leads the defensive effort with a 2.33 ERA.
