RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team is set for the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament this week. The Colonels will enter the tournament as No. 1 seed.
EKU will square off against Morehead State at 6:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, May 9 at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Alabama.
LAST TIME OUT
-The Colonels (37-16, 19-3 OVC) won 4-of-6 games last week, sweeping Belmont in a doubleheader and splitting twin bills with Eastern Illinois and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
-
Paige Murphy and
Mollie Paulick collected OVC Co-Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week Honors, respectively. Paulick was also given a nod from College Sports Madness, being named Madness Ohio Valley Player of the Week.
-Murphy put up stellar numbers last week, hitting .400 with six hits, three runs scored, one double, two home runs, four RBIs and two stolen bases. The senior continues to make a legitimate claim at being one of the only players in the country with 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases.
-Paulick earned all four of the squad's wins last week. She did not give up a run and struck out 30 batters in 25.0 innings of work. The Centerville, Ohio native tossed two complete shutouts and two combined shutouts.
-The two continue to lead the offensive and defensive effort for the Colonels as Murphy is hitting an impressive .524 in league play and Paulick is tossing a 0.90 ERA in OVC action.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-The Eagles (27-21, 8-14 OVC) come into the tournament on a four-game skid.
-Robyn Leighton leads Morehead State in the batter's box with a .339 mark in league play while Chelsea McManaway leads the pitching staff with a 1.52 earned run average in league action.
-The squads met during the regular-season on April 6 when Eastern Kentucky took the doubleheader, 7-0 and 14-2.
TOURNAMENT SETUP
-The tournament is double-elimination.
-Gates will open one hour prior to the first game start time.
-Ticket prices are $10 per day or $30 for a four-day tournament pass. Students with a college ID and 6-12 year olds will be $5 while children under five years old are free of charge.
-Should the Colonels lose on day one they will play the loser of the #4 Southeast Missouri vs. #5 SIUE game on Thursday, May 10 at 6olonels lose on day one they will play the loser of the #4 Southeast Missouri vs. #5 SIUE game on Thursday, May 10 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
-In the event that EKU wins on day it will play the winner of the above game at 4 p.m. ET on Thursday, May 10.
