BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University's
Zoe Aguirre and
Katie Shaffer earned Ohio Valley Conference weekly soccer honors on Tuesday, the league office announced.
Aguirre was voted OVC Goalkeeper of the Week, while Shaffer was named OVC Defensive Player of the Week.
The awards come on the heels of EKU recording back-to-back shutouts versus Belmont and Morehead State.
Aguirre recorded 10 saves over the weekend, including a season-high eight in the double-OT shutout against in-state rival Morehead State.
Aguirre now has three shutouts on the year and nine for her career.
This is the third time in her career Aguirre has been voted OVC Goalkeeper of the Week.
Shaffer rarely left the field over the weekend, playing 210 minutes to help secure the consecutive shutouts.
The junior center back has anchored an unyielding EKU backline that is currently tied for the OVC lead in goals-against average.
It is the second time this season Shaffer has earned OVC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
EKU closes out the regular season at SIUE on Thursday night. First touch is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
