Big Fourth Quarter Leads EKU Women's Basketball Past Memphis On The Road

MEMPHIS, Tenn. –
 Eastern Kentucky University's women's basketball team used a 30-point fourth quarter to knock off the University of Memphis, 63-60, Saturday on the road.
 
With Memphis (1-1) holding a 43-35 lead with 8:41 remaining in the fourth quarter, Eastern used a 21-6 run to take a 56-49 lead over the Tigers after the Bria Bass three. Memphis cut the Colonel lead to 63-60 after the Jamirah Shutes three with 12 seconds remaining in the game, but the EKU defense forced two missed shots to complete the comeback victory.
 
Bass led Eastern (2-0) with 13 points and eight rebounds. Teri Goodlett chipped in 12 points and three Assists, and newcomer I'Liyah Green just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
 
Shutes led the way for the Tigers posting a game-best 23 points and 10 rebounds.
 
EKU knocked down 17 free throws on the night compared to only 12 for Memphis.
 
The Tigers took a 13-8 lead after the first quarter of play after the three by Madison Griggs. The Colonels cut into the Tigers lead and made it a three-point game, 28-25, at the half. Memphis took a five-point lead, 38-33, into the fourth quarter that set up the late magic by the Colonels.
 
EKU again had a balanced attack with eight Colonels scoring on the night.
 
The Colonels have a week off before they hit the road again to take on Butler University. Tip-off in Indianapolis is scheduled for 6 p.m.
