Men's Basketball Hosts Murray State Saturday, Women's Team Goes On The Road To Play Morehead State

RICHMOND, Ky. – The men's basketball team will play host ot Murray State on Saturday while the women's squad takes to the road to play at Morehead State.

There will be plenty of great give-aways on Saturday.  In addition to being EKU Family Night, FREE Coca-Cola beanies and EKU basketball lanyards will be given away.  The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a FREE 6-inch sub from Penn Station.  Fans will also receive a commemorative Nick Mayo ticket. 

The women's game in Morehead tips at 2:05 p.m.  The men's contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.  Both games will air live on ESPN+.

INSIDE THE SERIES
-  EKU leads the all-time series 51-44.
 
-  The two teams split the season series last year with each winning on their own home court.
 
-  EKU Head Coach Chrissy Roberts is 12-9 all-time against Morehead State.
 
THE COLONELS
-  Eastern Kentucky lost to Tennessee State, 57-31, at home on Saturday.   
 
-  The Colonels took a 61-60 lead with 8:56 left in the game, but lost to Murray State, 76-63, at home on Thursday.   
 
-  Four players scored in double figures for EKU, the first time that has happened since Dec. 9 against George Mason.
 
-  EKU had 20 assists on 27 made field goals against the Racers.
 
-  Two players – Catie Kaifes and Teri Goodlett – had five assists each.
 
-  Eastern shot 48 percent from the field against Murray State.
 
-  The Colonels are knocking down six 3-pointers per game.  

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Morehead State (18-8, 9-4 OVC) suffered an 84-75 loss at home against Austin Peay on Thursday.    
 
-  The Eagles have lost two straight games for only the second time this season.  
 
-  Aliyah Jeune leads the team in scoring at 18 points per game and is third with 5.9 rebounds per contest.
 
-  Tierra McGowan is pulling down a team-best 8.6 rebounds per game.
 
-  McKenzie Calvert scored a game-best 27 points against Austin Peay.  Jeune came off the bench to score 24 points and grab 10 rebounds.
                          
-  The Eagles gave up 10 three-pointers to APSU.  Morehead State ranks 330th in the nation in three-point field goal percentage this season (35.4 percent).

WHAT TO KNOW
- Senior Nick Mayo went for 32 points and 11 rebounds in EKU's 78-72 loss at Morehead State on Thursday. Mayo has now recorded double-doubles in three of the Colonels' last five games. He has pulled down double-digit rebounds in four of EKU's last five games. He moved past Michael Haney to No. 8 on EKU's all-time rebounds list on Thursday (785). 

- Freshman Jomaru Brown was voted OVC Co-Freshman of the Week on Monday after averaging 22 points, 4 rebounds and 3.5 assists-per-game last week. He scored 18 points at Morehead State on Thursday. Brown ranks second among all freshmen in the OVC in scoring during league play (16.3 points-per-game). 

- Freshman Houston King leads the OVC in three-point field goal percentage (42.2%). 

- EKU (11-15, 4-9 OVC) leads the NCAA in steals-per-game (10.9). 

- The Colonels also rank second in the country in the turnovers forced/game (19.0), 17th in scoring offense (83.3 points-per-game) and 6th in turnover margin (+4.4). 

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- Murray State (20-4, 11-2 OVC) edged Austin Peay, 73-71, on Thursday night in Clarksville. 

- The Racers are now tied with Belmont atop the OVC standings. 

- Ja Morant averages a double-double for the Racers at 24.3 points and 10.1 assists-per-game. 

- This will be the 167th all-time meeting between long-time rivals EKU and Murray State. The Racers lead the series, 104-62, and have won four straight over the Colonels.
