EKU Softball Welcomes In-State Rival Western Kentucky On Wednesday

RICHMOND, Ky. –
 The Eastern Kentucky University softball team puts its six game winning streak on the line when in-state rival Western Kentucky University comes to town on Wednesday.
 
First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
 
We will be handing out free EKU softball pop sockets while supplies last.
 
Inside the Series
-The two teams have met 23 times prior to this contest.
 
-WKU leads the all-time series 12-11.
 
-The two teams split a pair of contests last year in Bowling Green.
 
What EKU Brings:
-EKU comes into the contest winners of its last six games after going 5-0 at the Lafayette Ford Lincoln of Fayetteville Seahawk Softball Invitational over the weekend.
 
-Sammi Miller continues her tear at the plate with a team-best .437 batting average, four doubles, one triple and 10 RBIs on the year.
 
-Melissa Jacobsen posted a .467 batting average with one double, one triple and one RBI last weekend. She was 6-for-6 on stolen bases.
 
-Mollie Paulick leads the way in the circle for the Colonels with team-bests in wins (5), ERA (2.78), saves (2) and strikeouts (51).
 
-Bethany Todd picked up her first two wins as a Colonel last week going 2-0 with two saves. She tossed a complete game allowing one run against Dayton on Wednesday.     
 
-Eastern ranks 37th in the county in home runs per game.
 
Scouting the Opponent:
-The Hilltoppers come into the game at 18-5 and winners of their last three after sweeping Florida International over the weekend.  
 
-Shannon Plese leads the way for Western with a team-best .406 batting average, six doubles, one triple, one home run and 16 RBIs.
 
-Kennedy Sullivan has posted a 12-2 record in her freshman campaign. She has seven complete games and a team-high 116 strikeouts.
 
-WKU ranks 13th in the country in stolen bases per game. 
 
EKU stays at home this weekend for its conference opener. The Colonels take on Tennessee Tech for a Friday double header starting at 4 p.m. On Sunday they welcome Jacksonville State to Richmond for two starting at 1 p.m.
