EKU Softball Opens Up Conference Play At Home With Four Games This Weekend

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team welcomes in Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State this weekend to start conference play.
 
First pitch against Tennessee Tech will be Friday at 4 p.m. The second game of the doubleheader will start 30 minutes after the finish of game number one.
 
The Jacksonville State doubleheader will start at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Game two will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of game number one. These games will be streamed live on ESPN+.

Inside the Series                                                                                                                   
-Tennessee Tech leads the all-times series between the two teams, 56-41.
 
-Jacksonville State leads the all-time series between the two teams, 38-11.
 
What EKU Brings:
-EKU comes into the weekend 13-10, after falling to in-state rival Western Kentucky, 6-5, on Wednesday.
 
-Eastern is led by sophomore Sammi Miller at the plate. She has a team-best .419 batting average with four doubles, one triple and 11 RBIs.
 
-Hannah Clark is hitting .365 with a team-best eight doubles, six home runs and 26 RBIs.
 
-Destinee Lizzmore hit her team-best seventh home run of the year to start the game against WKU on Wednesday.    
 
-Bethany Todd leads the way in the circle for the Colonels, posting a 2-0 record on the year. She has struck out 40 batters over 48 innings.
 
-Eastern ranks 37th in the country in home runs per game. 
 
Scouting the Opponent:
-Tennessee Tech comes into the weekend at 10-11 and losers of its last three.
 
-Beth McCulley leads the way at the plate for the Golden Eagles with a team-best .377 batting average. She has three doubles and three RBIs on the season. In the circle Tech is led by Alyssa Arden, who has a 6-4 record on the year with a team-best 2.85 ERA.  
 
-Jacksonville State comes into the weekend at 16-6 and winners of its last five games.
 
-Taylor Beshears leads the way offensively for the Gamecocks with a team best .444 batting average. She has five doubles, nine home runs and 25 RBIs on the year. Faith Sims leads the way in the circle for JSU with a team-best 9-1 record. She has 84 strikeouts over 74 and one-third innings pitched.
 
-Jacksonville State ranks 13th in the country in home runs per game.
 
Eastern hits the road next weekend to Martin and Southeast Missouri State for four games. First pitch against UT Martin is 4 p.m. on Friday. First pitch against SEMO is 1 p.m. on Sunday.
