Â
Just as they did in the series opener on Friday, the Skyhawks scored a run in the first inning to take an early lead. Blake Davis drove home Sean Dixson on a sacrifice fly to right field.
Â
The Colonels scored four times in the bottom of the second and never trailed again.Â
Daniel Harris IV tied it with a one-out, solo home run over the wall in left center. It was his second of the season. With two outs and two on later in the inning, Kerr launched his first homer of the season over the wall in right center to put EKU in front 4-1.
Â
Charlie Ludwick's second home run of the season, a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth, made it a 7-2 game in favor of the home team. Ethan Whitley answered for UT Martin (8-14, 2-6 OVC) in the top of the sixth with a two-run dinger to cut the deficit to three.
Â
Kerr's bases clearing double in the bottom of the sixth put the game out of reach at 10-4. It was his fifth, sixth and seventh RBI of the game.
Â
Blake Daniels went 2-for-5 for UTM.
Â
"I thought it was a great day for our team. Â We really wanted to win all three phases of the game today and I think we did that," Eastern Kentucky Head Coach
Edwin Thompson said. Â "We had a couple of errors defensively but I thought we swung it consistently throughout the game. Â
Kaven Brown gave us a great start and settled in after the first inning.Â
Ryland Kerr, what can you say, had a special day. Â It was another consistent day. Â I'm really proud of our guys and how they responded this weekend."
