ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team fell on the road at Oakland University, 2-1, in overtime on Thursday night.

Freshman
Audrey Anderson staked Eastern to an early lead when she rebounded her own saved shot and scored her first collegiate goal in the fourth minute to put the Colonels up, 1-0.

Sami Lopez responded with the equalizer for Oakland (2-0-1) in the 17
th minute, and the game went into halftime knotted up at 1-1.

The Golden Grizzlies had a chance to take the lead in the 69
th minute when a handball in the box handed the hosts a penalty kick; however, junior goalkeeper
Billie Clark made a diving stop on the PK to preserve the tie.

Five minutes into extra time, Lopez struck again, burying the golden goal to give Oakland the narrow victory.

"These games are about a lot of little individual moments," head coach
Matt Cosinuke said. "Today, we lost too many of our individual battles in those moments."Â

The game was evenly-matched from a statistical standpoint, as Oakland outshot EKU, 8-7. Both teams attempted only two corner kicks.

Anderson paced the Colonels with three shots in the game, two of which were on frame. Fellow freshman
Maddy Lemery came off the bench to attempt three shots, as well.

"I'm so happy for Audrey," Cosinuke added. "She's been playing at a high level and she deserved that goal."Â

Junior
Katie Shaffer played all 95 minutes at center back for the Colonels on the night.

Clark made five saves in the game.
Â
"The only way we start getting results is by being honest with ourselves about what mistakes are happening and where we must get better," Cosinuke said. "We need to go the distance for ourselves and our family members."

EKU returns home to host Milwaukee on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
