Women's Basketball Falls at Belmont, 68-48

Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Host Belmont pulled away in the second half to claim a 68-48 victory over the Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team on Thursday evening at the Curb Event Center.
 
EKU (7-9, 1-4 OVC) battled preseason OVC favorite Belmont (9-7, 4-1 OVC) to a near-even first half. After the Bruins jumped out to an 11-4 lead, the Colonels responded with a 10-0 run to go ahead. A three-pointer by junior Teri Goodlett sparked the run and a jumper by Goodlett ended it, giving Eastern a 14-11 advantage with 8:43 remaining in the second quarter.
 
After a 14-2 Belmont run staked the hosts to a 25-16 lead, EKU rallied in the waning minutes of the second half. Another triple by Goodlett with less than a minute to play sent the Colonels into the locker room at the break down by only three, 29-26.
 
Belmont, however, opened the second half on an 11-2 run, as a free throw by Ellie Harmeyer made it a 12-point-game, 40-28, with 3:39 left in the third quarter. The Bruins led by double digits the rest of the way.
 
Goodlett finished with 10 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Colonels. Junior Qay Stanton added 10 points and three assists. Redshirt junior I'liyah Green contributed seven points and eight boards.
 
Conley Chinn paced a balanced Belmont scoring attack with 15 points. Harmeyer posted a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
 
EKU held Belmont to 37 percent shooting from the floor (22-of-59), but the Bruins outscored the Colonels in the paint, 28-10, and outrebounded the Colonels, 48-37.
 
Eastern stays in Nashville to play Tennessee State on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET.
