EKU Softball Unveils 2021 Schedule Headlined By Home Tournament

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Head Coach Jane Worthington and the Eastern Kentucky University softball team have unveiled the 2021 schedule, headlined by a home tournament March 5-7.
 
The non-conference portion of the schedule is highlighted by games against in-state rivals Kentucky and Western Kentucky. The Colonels travel to take on the Wildcats on March 16, before the Wildcats come to Richmond on April 14. Kentucky finished last year 20-4 and ranked No. 11 in the country. Eastern travels to Bowling Green to take on Western Kentucky in a three-game series March 20-21. The Hilltoppers were 20-5 before the season was canceled because of COVID-19.
 
Eastern will also take on Marshall twice in North Carolina. The Thundering Herd finished last year at 18-7.
 
EKU opens up its season in Macon, Georgia with a three game series against Mercer on Feb. 13.
 
Eastern hosts the EKU Invitational, March 5-7, for the second consecutive year with the teams to be announced.   
 
The Colonels will play tournaments at Charleston Southern, Campbell, and Memphis.
 
EKU visits Miami (OH) for a doubleheader on March 28 and Dayton for a doubleheader on April 28.
 
Eastern will play nine games against opponents that finished in the top 100 of the RPI a year ago.
 
Conference foes SIUE (April 10), Eastern Illinois (April 11), Morehead State (April 20), Tennessee Tech (April 24) and Jacksonville State (April 25) will all come to Richmond this year.
 
While Eastern will hit the road in conference against Belmont (March 28), Tennessee State (April 2), Murray State (April 17), Austin Peay (April 18), UT Martin (May 1) and Southeast Missouri (May 2).
 
The Colonels finished last year 22-2 and finished with the longest winning streak in DI softball at 18 games. Eastern finished the year ranked 48th in the RPI and return all but one player off last year's team. EKU returns its top 13 hitters and its top four pitchers off last year's squad.
 
Easterns pitching staff finished 21st in earned run average and shutouts. The Colonels offense finished the season ranked 31st in home runs per game and 59th in scoring.

As with everything during the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 softball schedule is subject to change
