Box Score

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. –
Eastern Kentucky University's women's basketball team used a 21-6 run in the first quarter to take a 21-11 lead, and never looked back in its 62-45 win over the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on Friday afternoon in Chattanooga.

The Colonels (3-2, 2-0 OVC) were sparked by the bench in the first half. Sophomore Emma Hacker scored eight points and a career-best five rebounds in the first quarter off the bench to spark the EKU run.

Chattanooga (2-4, 0-0 SoCon) cut the Colonel lead to eight, 26-18, with 5:26 remaining in the first half after the three-pointer by Bria Dial. However, the Mocs would never got any closer. Eastern closed the half on a 7-0 run after the Jayla Johnson layup with 1:51 remaining and took a 33-18 lead into the half.

The two teams traded points for much of the third stanza, but the Mocs cut the Colonel lead to 11, 44-33, heading into the last quarter.

That is when Johnson took over. She posted 11 of her game-high 18 points and seven rebounds in the final quarter to put Mocs away.

Chattanooga cut the Colonel lead to 13, 53-40, with 5:49 remaining in regulation. But a Johnson jump shot and a Bria Bass corner three extended the EKU lead to 18, 58-40.

Eastern Kentucky held Chattanooga to 25 percent shooting on the night and 6-for-31 from the three-point line. The Colonels shot a season-high 43 percent from the field and 40 percent from the three-point line.
