EKU Softball Hits The Road For The Winthrop Invitational

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team travels to play in the Winthrop Invitational this weekend in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
 
The Colonels will play five games over the weekend. EKU takes on host Winthrop University at 3 p.m. Friday; followed by UNC Greensboro at 5:30 p.m. Eastern squares off against Towson Saturday at 10 a.m. followed by Boston at 12:30 p.m. They wrap up their weekend with Georgetown University on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
 
Inside the Series'                                                                                                                   
-Eastern leads the all-time series with Winthrop 3-2. The Eagles come into the weekend at 2-3 after the opening weekend of play. Winthrop's offense is led by Ansley Gilreath who has a team-best .583 batting average with two home runs and five RBIs.
 
-The Colonels' second opponent on the weekend is UNC Greensboro. The Spartans come into the weekend at 1-2 after back-to-back extra inning losses to Ohio State and South Carolina. Morgan Scott leads the way for the Spartans in the circle with a 1-1 record. Greensboro leads the all-time series between the two teams, 6-1.
 
-EKU leads the all-time series against Towson, 3-2. The Tigers come into the weekend after splitting a pair of contests the opening weekend. Sara Johnson tossed six innings, allowing two runs and striking out 10 batters against Saint Francis.  
 
-This will be the first ever meeting between EKU and Boston. Boston comes into the weekend at 5-0 after sweeping the Stetson Leadoff Classic. Ali DuBois leads the way in the circle for the Terriers with a 3-0 record. She has a 0.70 ERA with 22 strikeouts.
 
-Eastern leads the all-time series against Georgetown, 2-0. The Hoyas come in at 0-5 after only scoring one run the opening weekend. London Diller leads the way in the circle with a 1.75 ERA.
 
What EKU Brings:
-Eastern comes into the weekend at 3-1, after the Mercer Invitational the opening weekend.  
 
-Sammi Miller led the way for the Colonels offense hitting a team-best .643 over the opening weekend. Miller had one double and three stolen bases.  
 
-Freshmen Ariyana Miranda and Isabella Gonzalez each hit the first home runs of their careers.
 
-Bethany Todd picked up two wins in the circle, going 2-0 on the opening weekend.  
 
-Samantha Reynoso went 1-0 in the circle after tossing four scoreless innings against Wright State.  
 
-EKUs 31 runs scored on the opening weekend were the most runs scored in the first four games of the season since 2008.
