EKU Softball Pushes Winning Streak To 18 Games With A Doubleheader Sweep On Wednesday

Game 1 | Game 2

DAYTONA BEACH, Ky. –
The Eastern Kentucky University softball team pushed its winning streak to 18 games, the longest in NCAA Division 1 softball, after a doubleheader sweep of Bethune-Cookman University on Wednesday in Daytona Beach.

Eastern Kentucky (22-2) took game one, 1-0, before taking game two, 9-1.

In game one, the Colonels could only manufacture three hits, but they had the biggest hit of the game.

With two outs in the top of the third, Sammi Miller tripled off the left field wall to score Isabella Gonzalez from first to give Eastern the 1-0 lead.

That was more than enough for Mollie Paulick.

Paulick went the distance tossing seven innings, allowing five hits and striking out a season-high 13 batters.

Ariyana Miranda, Vianna Barron and Miller all picked up a hit in the game.

In game two, the Colonels scored one run in the first and seven in the second to roll past Bethune-Cookman.

In the top of the first, Miranda got things started with a single through the right side. After Zoe Mihalicz reached on an error, Lou Bowers doubled into the left center gap to score Miranda and give the Colonels a 1-0 lead.

The first six batters of the second inning walked to give Eastern the 3-0 lead. After Bowers reached on an error, Barron had the dagger with a grand slam to push the Colonel lead to a commanding, 8-0.

The Wildcats scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth to avoid the run rule.

Eastern pushed one more run across in the top of the seventh after a RBI single by Mihalicz.

Samantha Reynoso (6-1) started in the circle tossing four innings, allowing one unearned run and striking out two. Tori Peterson picked up her first save of the year tossing the final three innings allowing one hit and striking out two.

Eastern heads north to Jacksonville for the Jax Classic over the weekend. The Colonels will play five games over three days starting on Friday. First pitch against Marist on Friday is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
