Basketball Teams Set to Host UT Martin in Thursday Night Doubleheader

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's and men's basketball teams will host UT Martin in an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader on Thursday at McBrayer Arena. The women tip at 5 p.m. ET, followed by the men at 8 p.m. ET.

Both games will air live on ESPN+.

INSIDE THE SERIES

- This is the 57th all-time meeting between the two teams.
 
- EKU leads the all-time series between the two teams 31-25.
 
- UTM has won five straight in the series.
 
THE COLONELS
-  Eastern comes in at 6-6 (5-3 OVC), after falling to Eastern Illinois, 73-68, Saturday afternoon in Charleston. 
 
-  Jayla Johnson led the way for the Colonels posting a team-high 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field against the Panthers on Saturday.
 
-  Emma Hacker chipped in with 12 points and four rebounds off the bench.
 
-  EKU ranks 22nd in the country in three-point field goal percentage defense.
 
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  UT Martin comes into the contest at 5-3 (4-1 OVC), and winners of its last three after beating Murray State, 78-71, on Saturday at home.
 
-  The Skyhawks are led by preseason OVC Player of the Year Chelsey Perry. Perry is currently averaging 29.3 points and 8.9 rebounds per game on the season.
 
-  Perry was named OVC Player of the Week for the fourth time this year after averaging 34.6 points and 11.6 rebounds per game a week ago.
 
-  UTM ranks first in the OVC in field goal percentage.

WHAT TO KNOW
 
EKU (12-2, 6-1 OVC) went on the road on Saturday and defeated Eastern Illinois, 93-85, in overtime for its seventh consecutive win. The Colonels are now off to their best start to a season since 1946-47.
 
Eastern jumped four spots to No. 14 in this week's CollegeInsider.com Mid Major Top-25®.
 
Junior Tre King poured in a game-high 24 points in the win at EIU. He added six rebounds, two blocks, two steals and two assists.
 
King was voted OVC Co-Player of the Week for the third time this season on Monday. The forward from Lexington currently ranks second in the OVC in both scoring (17.6 points-per-game) and rebounding (8.0 rebounds-per-game).
 
Redshirt freshman Curt Lewis contributed 18 points and six boards at Eastern Illinois. Freshman Wendell Green Jr. had 17 points and six assists.
 
Sophomore Michael Moreno hit the game-tying three-pointer with three seconds left in regulation to force overtime on Saturday. Moreno is shooting 45 percent (17-of-38) from long range during OVC play.
 
EKU leads the OVC in scoring (82.1 points-per-game) and three-pointers-per-game (8.9).
 
The Colonels posted their best three-point shooting percentage of the season (52 percent / 12-of-23) in the win at Eastern Illinois.
 
EKU leads the NCAA in steals-per-game (12.1) and ranks second in turnover margin (+7.7) and turnovers forced-per-game (21.2).
 
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
 
UT Martin (3-7, 1-5 OVC) fell at home to Murray State, 79-57, on Saturday.
 
Cameron Holden is averaging 16.8 points and 8.0 rebounds-per-game for the Skyhawks.
 
This is the 51st meeting between EKU and UT Martin. The Colonels lead the all-time series, 30-20, and have won two straight over the Skyhawks.
