NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Sarah Mitchell and
Molly Michalak combined for 35 kills in Eastern Kentucky's 3-1 loss at Lipscomb on Sunday.

The Bisons won by scores of 25-23, 25-18, 18-25 and 25-13.

Mitchell had 19 kills and three errors in 43 attempts for a .372 attack percentage. Michalak finished with 16 kills and five errors in 41 attacks for a .268 hitting percentage.Â
Sydney Schoen added 20 digs.

As a team, EKU hit .250 for the match, but Lipscomb had a .315 attack percentage.

With the first set tied 17-17, Lipscomb (8-8, 5-1 ASUN) rolled off a 5-1 run to go up four, 22-18. The Colonels came back, scoring three straight.Â
Reilly Lowe got it started with a kill. After a Lipscomb error, Michalak put down a kill to make it a one-point set, 22-21. The Bisons reached set-point on a kill by Anna Aubele before another Michalak kill kept EKU within one, 24-23. However, Meg Mersman ended it on the next series in favor of the home team.

Lipscomb scored the first two points of the second set and, with the exception of a brief 2-2 tie, led the whole way. A kill from Delaney Dilfer made it a 14-6 set. Eastern Kentucky never got closer than six the rest of the set as the Bisons rolled to a 25-18 win.

EKU (6-15, 3-4 ASUN) fell behind 5-2 early in the third set before going on a 12-2 run. A kill by Mitchell and an ace from Schoen capped it and put the visitors on top 14-7. A kill from Michalak stretched it to an eight-point lead, 20-12. A kill by Mitchell ended the set, 25-18, and kept Eastern Kentucky alive.

The Bisons scored the first eight points of the fourth set to put an end to the Colonels' comeback hopes. An EKU attack error gave Lipscomb a 12-3 advantage on its way to a 25-13 win in the final set.

Four Lipscomb players had 10 or more kills led by Mersman with 13.
