Colonels Pick Up ASUN Road Win At Central Arkansas

CONWAY, Ark. –
Sarah Mitchell posted a double-double as Eastern Kentucky beat Central Arkansas, 3-2, on Friday.
 
Mitchell finished with 17 kills and 16 digs.  The Berea, Kentucky native had just six errors in 33 attempts for a .333 attack percentage.  She also had two block assists.
 
The Colonels (6-14, 3-3 ASUN) won by scores of 25-22, 25-19, 25-21, 15-25 and 15-10.
 
Anna Purichia added 14 kills and two block assists.  Reilly Lowe had seven block assists and four kills.  Sydney Schoen also had 16 digs.
 
Central Arkansas (3-11, 1-4 ASUN) took a 21-19 lead in the first set on a kill by Alexis Stumbough.  However, EKU scored six of the final seven to come from behind for the win.  Mitchell tied it 22-22 with a kill and then ended it, 25-22, with another.
 
The Colonels attempted a comeback again in the second set.  After UCA took an eight-point lead, 14-6, Eastern Kentucky rallied.  An 8-2 run allowed the visitors to get within two, 16-14.  An ace from Josie Schmitendorf followed by a Sugar Bear error capped the run.  EKU got within two twice more, at 17-15 and 18-16, before Central Arkansas rolled off three straight to go up five, 21-16, on its way to tying the match.
 
Eastern Kentucky rallied again late in the third to take a 2-1 lead.  Down 17-15, the Colonels scored seven of the next eight to take a four-point lead, 22-18. 
 
After UCA tied the score with a 10-point win in the fourth set, EKU started the fifth by scoring the first four points and never trailed.  A kill from Mikayla Logan made it 10-4.  A kill from Mitchell gave Eastern Kentucky match-point.  Taylor Grinley served up an ace to end it. 
 
Eastern Kentucky had 61 kills, nine more than the Sugar Bears.  UCA had 11 fewer errors and two more aces, but the Colonel defense had 16 more digs than the home team.
 
Lexi Miller had a team-best 13 kills for Central Arkansas.
 
EKU's road trip continues against Lipscomb on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.
