RADFORD, Va. – The Colonels couldn't overcome a cold shooting start in an 88-75 loss at Radford on Sunday.
Braxton Beverly hit four 3-pointers and finished with a team-best 17 points.
Jannson Williams scored 15 points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked five shots.
Michael Moreno had 12 points and seven boards.
EKU started by hitting on just 3-of-19 (15.8 percent) from the field and fell behind by as many as 15 points in the first half.
The Colonels were 7-of-32 (21.9 percent) late in the first half before heating up and putting together a run. Eastern Kentucky made 4-of-6 to end the stanza and key an 11-4 run to cut a 15-point deficit to eight, 38-30, at the break.
Devontae Blanton got it started with a lay-up and then Moreno,
Curt Lewis and Williams knocked down 3-pointers.
Midway through the second half, a 7-0 EKU run tied the game at 50-50. A free throw by Lewis knotted the score with 12:02 to play. The Highlanders however scored seven unanswered to regain control.
Eastern Kentucky closed to within two, 71-69, on a lay-up from Beverly, but Tai'Reon Joseph hit a 3-pointer at the other end with 2:11 left in the game and the Colonels never got any closer.
Bryan Hart finished with 15 points to lead the Highlanders (3-4). Rashun Williams had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Radford shot 55 percent from the field for the game.
EKU (5-3) finished the night hitting on just 34 percent of its shots. Both teams went to the free throw line 28 times and made 21 of them.
The Colonels will return to action on Saturday when they play at Western Kentucky.
