OXFORD, Ohio – Eastern Kentucky University's women's basketball team fell on the road at Miami (OH), 80-62, on Sunday afternoon in Oxford.
 
Jayla Johnson led the way for the Colonels with 12 points and five rebounds. Bridgid Fox had 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Brie Crittendon had 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals off the bench.
 
Miami (4-3) opened the game on a 15-2 run in the first six minutes in the game and never looked back.
 
The Colonels chipped into the RedHawks lead with Johnson scoring the first 10 points of the game for EKU to make it 18-10 with 2:50 remaining in the first quarter. Miami answered back with an 8-2 run to take a 26-12 lead after a quarter.
 
Eastern Kentucky (3-5) cut the RedHawk lead to 10 three times in the second quarter but could never get it to single digits and went into the half trailing, 39-27.
 
Fox scored the first six points of the second half for the Colonels. EKU cut the Miami lead to nine, 44-35, after the Crittendon steal and layup. The Colonels got within eight after a steal and a Kayra Freeman layup off the Alice Recanati assist.
 
The Colonels shot 40 percent from the field.
 
EKU and Miami each had 36 rebounds. The Colonels forced 20 Miami turnovers.  
 
The Colonels continue their road swing on Wednesday night at in-state rival Morehead State. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
