RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky sophomore defensive back
Davion Ross has been recognized on the 2021 AFCA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Coaches' All-America Team, announced Wednesday by the American Football Coaches Association.
A native of Perry, Ga., Ross was voted as the ASUN Defensive Player of the Year and was selected as a Sophomore All-American by HERO Sports, as well as a Stats Perform Third Team All-American. He joins the AFCA FCS Coaches' All-America Team as a second-team member.
Ross led the nation with three interception returns for touchdowns and tied for sixth nationally with 13 pass breakups. He totaled 46 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and a fumble recovery on the season and was part of an EKU defense that picked off 13 passes this fall. He also recorded 19 kick returns for a total of 522 yards, ranking 13th in the nation with a 27.5 yard average, including a 98-yard touchdown return against No. 1 Sam Houston. Ross is the second Colonel in three years to earn AFCA All-American honors, joining former defensive lineman and current Denver Bronco Aaron Patrick.
The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions. EKU owns the AFCA record for consecutive years with an All-American selection, placing at least one player on the All-American team in its first 15 years an FCS program (1979-93).
