Eastern Kentucky Outlasts Chattanooga For 60-55 Victory

Box Score RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky used 20 points from Alice Recanati and a double-double from Jayla Johnson to erase a 15-point first-quarter deficit and knock off Chattanooga, 60-55, on Thursday afternoon in McBrayer Arena.

EKU fell behind early as Chattanooga jumped out to a 17-2 lead with 3:24 left in the first quarter. However, the Colonels held the Mocs without a field goal for the rest of the period and fought back to a 19-8 deficit entering the second quarter. Eastern Kentucky trailed by 10 midway through the second stanza, but a layup from Emma Hacker with 4:25 remaining in the half sparked a 13-4 run as the Colonels rallied to within a point before halftime. Johnson netted nine of EKU's 21 points in the quarter.

Eastern Kentucky took its first lead of the day on a Bria Bass layup at the 8:37 mark of the third quarter and never trailed again, pushing its lead to 10 points with 6:00 remaining in the contest. Chattanooga pulled within three with 2:56 to play, but EKU held the Mocs scoreless for the rest of the game to secure the win.

Recanati scored 15 of her 20 points in the second half and made all three of her three-point attempts on the day. Johnson pulled down 12 rebounds to go with her 17 points. Bass collected seven rebounds, while I'Liyah Green chipped in five points.

EKU outrebounded Chattanooga 44-33 and limited the Mocs to just 5-of-18 shooting from beyond the arc (27.8 percent). The Colonels made 17 of their 22 attempts from the free-throw line and scored 15 second-chance points on 14 offensive rebounds.
