Kendall Wingler Fuels Mid-Game Run To Lead EKU Past Tennessee State

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –
Kendall Wingler's three 3-pointers in the middle of the game turned a one-point lead into a 10-point advantage as Eastern Kentucky picked up a 74-62 victory at Tennessee State on Saturday.
 
With the Colonels up 35-34 in the final minute of the first half, Wingler hit a pair of three-pointers on consecutive possessions to send EKU to the locker room in front 41-34.  The freshman began the second half with another three-pointer to put Eastern up 10, 44-34.
 
The Lady Tigers got as close as two briefly early in the fourth quarter, but a 19-4 run allowed Eastern Kentucky to put the game away.  Wingler hit two more three-pointers during the run, including one from the left corner to cap it and give the Colonels a 17-point lead, 71-54, with 2:00 left in the game.
 
Wingler finished with a game-best 21 points on 7-of-17 shooting from the field.  She hit 6-of-12 from behind the arc.  Wingler missed matching her career-high by one point.
 
Jayla Johnson added 16 points for Eastern Kentucky (7-11, 6-8 OVC).  Emma Hacker scored 12 points and pulled down a career-best 12 rebounds for her first career double-double.  Anysa Jordan contributed 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor.
 
The Colonels shot 44 percent for the game and went 10-of-26 (39 percent) from three-point range.  TSU shot 40 percent from the field and made just 4-of-22 from deep (18 percent).  EKU out-rebounded Tennessee State by 15, 44-29.
 
Eastern scored 12 of the first 14 points of the game but the Lady Tigers rebounded to roll off 13 unanswered of their own and go in front 15-12.  The Colonels led by two, 19-17, at the end of the first quarter but fell behind 29-28 with 5:23 to go in the second.  EKU out-scored the home team 13-5 from that point to end the first half.  Wingler's three-pointers on back-to-back possessions in the final minute sent Eastern Kentucky to the locker room with a seven-point advantage.
 
Taylor Roberts led Tennessee State (0-18, 0-15 OVC) with 19 points.
 
EKU plays at Jacksonville State on Monday at 6:30 p.m. ET.
