EKU Softball Hits The Road To Charleston For Four Games Over The Weekend

RICHMOND, Ky. –
 The Eastern Kentucky University softball team will travel to Charleston, South Carolina for a pair of doubleheaders over the weekend.
 
EKU will face the College of Charleston in a doubleheader on Saturday and Charleston Southern on Sunday in a doubleheader.
 
First pitch against the College of Charleston on Saturday is scheduled for 4 p.m. with game two starting 30 minutes after the last out. First pitch against Charleston Southern on Sunday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
Inside the Series'                                                                                                                   
-The College of Charleston comes into the weekend at 0-0 after its opening weekend was canceled because of weather.
 
-The series between the two teams all-time is tied, 1-1, with the last meeting coming back in 2017.
 
-The Cougars finished the 2020 shortened season at 10-10. Payton Wade and Noel Dominguez return for Charleston from last year with both hitting over .300 a season ago.
 
-Charleston Southern comes into the weekend at 0-0 on the season and will take on Cleveland State on Saturday before the Colonels play them on Sunday.
 
-The two teams have split a pair of contests all-time with the last meeting coming in 2018.
 
-The Buccaneers finished the 2020 shortened season at 10-9. CSU returns its top two hitters and pitchers from last year's team.
 
What EKU Brings:
-EKU returns all nine starters, and 17-of-18 players, off last year's 22-2 team.
 
-The Colonels opened their season with a pair of loses against No 21/23 Tennessee in Knoxville.
 
-Redshirt junior Bethany Todd was good in the circle against the Lady Vols. Todd tossed a complete game allowing three runs and striking out five in a 3-2 loss.
 
-Carly Robinson hit her first home run of the year with a two-run shot in the first inning in game two against Tennessee.
 
-Eastern returns 11 of its top 12 hitters off last year's teams. Last year the Colonels ranked 31st in the country and first in the league in home runs per game, 40th in the NCAA and third in the OVC in slugging percentage, 50th in triples, 76th in batting average and 81st in doubles.
 
-The Colonels return their top four pitchers from last year's rotation that was lights out. EKU finished 21st in the country and first in the OVC in earned run average and shutouts. The defense for the Colonels finished 31st in the NCAA and first in the OVC in fielding percentage.
 
-Redshirt freshman Ariyana Miranda was named to the Ohio Valley Conference Players to Watch List.
